Jangaon is located on National Highway almost equidistant from the State Capital Hyderabad and Warangal, the district headquarters. Connected with the headquarters of South Central Railway, Secunderabad, Jangaon assumes considerable importance. It was a hot spot of rebellion erupted against Nizam’s tyrannical feudal oppression culmination in Telangana Peasant Liberation Movement. The great literary giant, the one, and only Bammera Pothana, who authored the magnum opus Srimadaandhra Mahal Bhaagavatham belongs to this region. He is the perennial source of inspiration to the people of all walks of life. This institution has Pothana in its Emblem. Paalakuriki Somanaatha another literary giant and social reformer also hail from the palace. Know for its literary and cultural excellence Jangaon division has produced many poets, artists, specifically folk in nature, of a higher caliber. It is said to have derived its name from Kolanpaka, a famous pilgrim center for Jains, who frequented this area in large numbers earning it the name Jaina gram. With the passage of time, it has come to be known as Jangaon.

ABV Government Degree College owes it existence to ABV High School, which came into being during Nizam’s rule. The Management of the school donated land for proposed Degree College in 1975. The missionary and visionary zeal of a few philanthropists under the able stewardship of the then M.L.A. Sri N. Yeti Raja Rao could muster up required support from the people of this division to start a degree college to enable the youth to gain access to Under Graduate courses which were until then available at distant places like Hyderabad and Warangal. It had a vision of reaching sections who are poor and downtrodden.
