The institution started functioning in the building of District Industries Centre with 59 students and 5 faculty members. Subsequently, the academic activities were shifted to an abandoned building of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and finally, the college came to its present permanent site spreading over 200 acres of land in 1995. It has been duly recognized by the UGC with permanent affiliation to Rajiv Gandhi University, Doimukh, Itanagar. Significantly, the Commerce stream was introduced in 2004 for offering wider career choices to the students.
The college has been successfully imparting quality higher education to the students of Lohit, Anjaw, Dibang Valley, Lower Dibang Valley and to some extent Tirap, Changalang and Longding Districts of the state. Gradually it has emerged as a model institution of higher learning and research in the eastern region, with an increased student population. The College has already been accredited by NAAC with B + Grade in 2006. The students of the college are regularly capturing top positions in different subjects in the university examinations
